FOR SALE - MODELS

"I have been fascinated with boats since I was a kid."
In 1989, Tom Balfour took time offfrom his career as an architectural photographer with Max Dupain to build a wooden boat. One boat turned into 4, and after he had resumed work as a photographer, it made more sense to build scale models to satisfy his fascinaton with the shape of boat hulls!
All his models are built from lines plans gleaned from a variety of sources. the hulls are planked in the traditional manner from various timbers, (allmilled to size in his workshop), and because they are intended for pond sailing, are given a durable skin of fibreglass cloth.
The spars and most fittings are custom made, and the sails are cut from sailmakers dacron cloth for durability. A couple of vintage yachts hve been fitted with cotton japara sails made by a master sailmaker.
Many of the models are fitted with radio controlled steering and sail controls, which is hidden within the hull and not obvious to the observer.
The philosphy behind these models is to express the flavour of the originl boat, but much detail isommitted in order to retain simplicity and purity ofline.

Palana – a classic Tassie -built centreboard yawl is for sale Designed by Arthur Robb and built by master boat builder Max Creese in Hobart, following the finest Tasmanian traditions, she has been lovingly cared for (professionally maintained) with beautiful original Oregon masts (main and mizzen).

FREE TO A GOOD HOME

The 'Whimbrel' is a 1940, approx 12m long, copper sheathed, wooden hull schooner, with
extensive wooden carving inside (Solomon Islands), sleeps six with a head.
We had been restoring her over the years but after sinking earlier in the year due to a
ferocious storm and laying at the bottom for 2 weeks, she is now sadly in need of total
restoration. She is floating and the bilge pump works, run by solar power.
We are offering her free to a wooden boat enthusiast or a shipwright student wanting to
practice their skills. She is currently moored at Berowra Waters and needs a new home.
